Fairfax police investigating murder of Lorton youth

A 17-year-old youth has been identified as the victim as police continue their investigation of a murder that occurred Sept. 7 in the 9700 block of Hagel Circle in Lorton.

According to Fairfax County police, a sound of gunshots and a report of a possibly shot person was received at 10:36 p.m. Officers arrived on the scene and located a male, lying on a sidewalk, suffering from an apparent gunshot wound to his upper body, police said. He was pronounced dead on the scene.

An unidentified vehicle reportedly was observed leaving the scene, police said. A perimeter was established around the crime scene by patrol officers and K9 units; the police helicopter was requested, but was unavailable due to weather conditions.

Detectives were called to the scene; they continue to actively process the scene, canvassing the neighborhood, seeking information and evidence.

The victim has been identified as 17-year-old Maurice Anderson Berger of Lorton. There is no suspect or vehicle description at the moment, police said. The exact cause of death will be determined by the medical examiner.
